Colorado, along with the rest of the Rocky Mountain states, is a beautiful combination of High Plains and Mountains. At one time buffalo, or American Bison, numbered in the millions and ranged throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas, and the Canadian Plains. They were a staple for the Native Horse Culture of the Plains. The late 1800's and early 1900's saw excellerated hunting by the encroaching "civilization," nearly reduced this beautiful and powerful species to extinction. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
